Helena Karhu is a North Karelian tradition keeper, retreat guide, cultural producer, and researcher. As the founder of House of Bear, she weaves folk culture and wisdom traditions into transformative experiences that nurture self-awareness. Her research explores Northern animistic-shamanic traditions, and their meanings, transformations, and relationship with planetary intelligence.

SHAMANIC ACTIVISM AND WISDOM

First, Helena will give an inspiration talk on the theme, “What is shamanic activism and planetary wisdom?” Afterward, we will experience a shamanic drum journey together. This is a journey of knowledge and empowerment, activating us to move from reflection to action: how can we, as members of the nature’s community, act more effectively for the sake of Earth? Small-group discussions involved.

FOLK WISDOM FROM NATURE

In this workshop, we joyfully step through the gate into the realm of nature beings. At the beginning, Helena will introduce the essence of folk wisdom in nature-based cultures and how we can support the earth. We will discuss the natural values connected to the beings of nature. Together with participants, we will design a simple, community-based art project that can continue after the festival.
